Setting ICMP rate-limit defines the number of ICMP packets that can be processed per second. Limitation of this number prevents denial-of-service attacks. Setting the value to 0 allows unlimited incoming ICMP messages. The default value has been changed from 10 to 0 in 5.5.9 and newer releases.
